I have a big horse 10 years old ISH with arthritic changes in one stifle which was medicated previously and now is an issue again. It was found on Wednesday that despite already being on two Bute a day he is now lame again but this time in the opposite one. While waiting for the initial one to be medicated again. The vets want to take him off the meds and work him up. I just cant see this being a long term comfortable prognosis for a big horse. Anyone had this situation before? He is very much loved and could be retired for me if comfortable but I'm concerned that could be very hard to achieve now. He doesn't like going to the vets so I'm waiting for them to come out and see what they can do with a second opinion. He is insured but I am wanting to do what is best for him as opposed to what can be investigated which seems to be hard to get across to the previous vet so trying another one.
