I order my Applaws through subscribe and save on Amazon as there aren't any stock lists locally and it's just easier to have it delivered.

Opened the bag last week to find white mouldy flecks on some biscuits. Dog didn't seem phased but after a couple of days and realising the whole bag was a bit off, I raised a complaint and they sent a replacement bag. Opened it this evening and exactly the same thing, if not a little bit more mouldy than the first. I've raised it with Amazon who again responded straight away and offered a full refund.

BUT I'm a bit reluctant to buy again over Amazon in case I get a third mouldy bag. I can only assume it's the way it's been stored as I've bought for the last two years with no problems.

If I went to my nearest stock list and asked to open it before I bought would they think I'm completely bat sht crazy? My dog is a bit of a drama llama with food so I don't want to give her the excuse not to eat it because it's a bit furry!

My OH used to buy Applaws from zooplus, and was happy with it, but in Jan 2016 it randomly (but very obviously) changed quality and upset our dogs stomach. I don't know if it was the manufacturer or the supplier but OH complained and was given a full refund. He buys another brand now.

Definitely change. We short listed between Applaws and Barking Heads. We went with Barking Heads and it's great. We don't have a close supplier and had it sent direct at first , then were told that our very small pet shop could get it in for collection at no extra cost. We just ring them and it's there very quickly.

I'm loathed to change BUT I'm not risking mouldy dog food so I've binned it, cancelled my repeat order on Amazon and I'm off to a pet food store this afternoon. I've seen Canagen and Acana which both have similar ingredient listings - any thoughts?

I like Acana - gundogs have all done well on it and latest Puppy is being brought up on it.

The mould may be a storage issue with Amazon vs an issue with Applaws. Low turnover maybe?

Check Zooplus for options, delivered free to your door and often the cheapest place for most high end feeds

Never heard of zooplus, will get on there tonight.

I was running tight on time with work so only managed pets at home, bought a small fishmongers to mix with my non mouldy Applaws until I sort out a new food.

I thought storage issue Druid but it's well sealed and well within date so I can't se how it would be? I do still rate the food though and I hate swapping biscuits.

Zooplus do Applaws too, might be worth ordering from them? They've v cheap, delivery is good and usually fast (Order Thursday and it's here Monday) and in the seven years I've used them if I've ever had an issue (once had a damaged delivery - courier not their fault) and the refunded the whole order without a quibble.

They also have some exclusive to them brands such as Purizon and Wolf of wilderness which are good quality

My dog is on Canagan and does well on it. I picked it both for the ingredients and the fact I can get it at a local independent pet shop.

My nearest pet shop is 45mins away (big chain retailer), the nearest independent one is over an hour away - so Zooplus it is for us
