any advice will be much appreciated!
i share a pony with one of my friends, who is two years younger than me, this is our first pony, and there are quite a few issues concerning him that i have raised and she will not listen to me!
he is starting to get bored of work, and is ridden almost every day each week, which means i am left to use up my days that i have him to give him days off, and i can no longer jump him because i dont want to overjup him, we have recently got into trouble with the livery yard for my friend bringing to many friends to ride him and jumping for too long/too high. many other liveries have commented to me about how my friend looks after this horse, yet i can do nothing to change it, and her mother is just the same as her, they are very inexperienced when it comes to looking after a pony!
i am worried he will start to get worse and he will be 'ruined'
i dont know whether to just try and get on with it and focus on my part, or stop sharing him, or try and make her see what she is doing wrong?
please help! :)

Who owns the pony - if it's her parents there isn't much you can really do. Your parents could have a word with hers to see if you can share out the jumping and off days between the two of you - if that doesn't work sadly you might be better off looking for something else to share.

Who owns the pony? if they do there is not much you can do to change things other than try and get them to understand that it needs more consideration in how much they do with him, the YO may be best placed to try and do this.
If he is not theirs I would contact the owner with your concerns, if they care about him they should welcome your thoughts and become more involved with his care.

thank you for the advice :) unfortunately its her parents who own him, and her mum has exactly the same views, they only just left the riding school so they dont realise that most horses dont get hammered round the arena every day! and i did think of ending the share, but i love the pony i cant bare to see him get worse :(

To be honest I don't see anything wrong with the pony being worked everyday, if there fit enough twice a day is ok. Lots of work help keeps there weight under control. However if you aren't happy with the way the pony is looked after, end the share.

I cannot stand to see kids who take the pony into the school and literally jump and jump and jump and jump. I have no problem with ponies being ridden everyday but you need to be fair.

He's not yours end the share now waiting will only make it worse you will find another it's hard I know.

Same.

Is there a YO who could have a word and give them some advice?

That's really sad that it's not working out, but ditto what others have said - it may well be time to end the share and save arguments and/or upset later. If you keep sharing and say nothing then you won't be enjoying it, which is surely the whole point. There will be something else out there for you to share or loan, then you can get an agreement written up so you know who is riding when and who is responsible for what. As for this particular pony, hopefully as the livery yard has already taken note of what's happening they will say something.

For someone young you are very sensible. Most ponies get bored very quickly if they do the same thing day in day out, thats why most riding school ponies become dead to the leg or if they get clever get nappy or naughty. Yes its alright to ride a pony every day but do different things and mainly hacking.
If you were my sharer I would be very pleased as you obviously care about the ponies welfare more than your own enjoyment. I would look for another pony to share, ask your parents to politely end the contract. Sharing is always difficult as when you relie on other people for transport it can restrict choice but when looking try and find not only the right pony but the right person to share with.

Have a look at this forum , they also have a Junior area. People are always looking for commited riders who are willing to learn so finding a pony that someone wants to show but is too big to ride may be a better bet.
