I wanted to share an update and a bit of good news in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation.
Some of you may remember our Irish horse and the wild, unpredictable jumper he turned into just weeks after arriving. Giving up was never an option, and now, a year later, he has become the most incredible little horse. My daughter has built a beautiful partnership with him, and last autumn, they took on a couple of 90cm hunter trials and completely unexpectedly winning them both! He’s been out a few times this year with similar results. His love for jumping is still as strong as ever perhaps a little too strong at times! but he’s producing lovely clear rounds and truly thriving. Their flatwork has come on leaps and bounds, and they’re now ready to start eventing this season.
We’ve owned horses all our lives, but we’ve never had one quite like him. It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey, challenging but so incredibly rewarding. The best advice I received was to lower my expectations, take a step back, and make it our journey. And that’s exactly what we did. Miles and miles of hacking, groundwork, arena hires, coaching- it has all paid off.
For anyone struggling with a tricky horse, hang in there. The journey might not be easy but the reward is worth it.
