Pointless post but thought I would share my (not-unique!) story.
I brought Lottie as a nutty 2 year old. I remember getting her off the trailer and struggling to lead her to the field and thinking 'oh my God what have I done'!
Anyway we have been through many ups and downs as she has grown up, and i think every two or three months I have thought I can't do this, I need to sell her. She has never been nasty or horrid, she is an absolute sweetheart, just typical youngster and my confidence in my abilities for some reason plummeted.
I have spent the last year thinking she is far to good for me, I'm not good enough for her... I have nearly sold her and been in tears at times when work and other things have been so intense I haven't had the time for her.
Anyway I was thinking today as I was hacking a very calm 4.5yr old Lottie that though we may not have come on as quickly as someone else may have brought her on, or I may not be out competing every day but I have broken her in, trained her and pushed through the difficulties to get to this point. I now have a very sweet, calm mare who I feel very safe on and we overcome things together. People compliment me on how relaxed she is and easy going. I can happily hack out alone, canter along a pop small fences, she works well in the school and always greets me with a whinney!
I suppose it is just a point to say if you are in the middle of such a situation it is worth pursuing it - and thank you to all the advice people have given me on this forum - it has helped get me through!!!
