The spare wheel is too close to the tow hitch so you cannot hitch your trailer up in the first place!!!

I discovered this today when I tried one out!

I have also discovered that I don't want an automatic car because they are too slow and I don't have the patience to wait for the car to catch up with me!

I am now thinking about an Isuzu Trooper - anyone got one of these for towing? (what do you get m/p/gallon?)
 
I have just sold my Trooper (well scrapped it as the work it needed was going to cost too much) It towed very well and is a good weight ratio with the trailer, but was expensive to drive everyday. Can't give you a fuel consumption figure as the milometer broke (one of the expensive uneconomic repairs)
 
I towed with a Frontera for a few years...no problems, with a IW 505 and didn't have any problems hitching up or driving with 2 horses. The tow hitch was fitted before I got it.

i have an auto shogun....

and i'm a convert....always towed with a manual before..

dont like fronteras...too light for my liking.....
 
My friend tows an equi trek with a trooper and its superb, certainly outclasses a frontera!!
I would class a Frontera as more of a utility 4x4 and not really a work horse for towing a horse and trailer, not sure what the weights are like for a frontera but I'd certainly look very carefully at it if you did end up going down this route??

Thanks guys - certainly didn't mean to offend anyone with a Frontera - and in fact it was a very nice spacious car, but there was no way the trailer was going to hitch on without the spare wheel coming off - might just have been the particularl model I tried.
 
I can't see a Frontera being anywhere robust enough to cope with your 'small' hills down there particularly if you're towing two in; the mind boggles; I can easily 'see' you going backwards!!

Troopers are good as are Daihatsu Fourtrak, they can pull a tank with no problems!!

"small hills" - LOL! I am now looking at Troopers because OH is very against me getting a new car just because of horses but he suggested a Trooper - so I am definitely going for that if it gets a bit of enthusiasm out of him!
 
Yes - would look at one of those too - the police use these around here - they always seem to be going into the garage for repairs though!
 
An Isuzu Trooper is a brilliant towing car, I loved mine (until it was stolen
mad.gif
). If you check the towing regs I don't think you would be legal towing two in a Frontera, but anyway, they aren't great towing cars.
 
Tee hee! My Frontera is fab to tow with - as many others have said - but it is a 2.8l diesel and I only ever tow one, so it is OK weight wise. Next time I am considering a Trooper or similar
 
I love Pajeros for towing. I have tried a landcruiser and a trooper and it would have been cheaper to buy my own petrol station to feed them!!

Go for 3.1 trooper, brilliant for towing. Tows my old rice trailer (which is heavy) with 16.3 middleweight no problems at all. However you will get through some fuel if you are using every day.

Yes this is what worries me - but if I can get 30 mpg out of it everyday it will be better than what I get out of my petrol Rav 4 (about 27 mpg)
