He's three weeks old and we've selected him today. We will be seeing him again in a couple of weeks and he will be coming home on the 19th December.

I am ridiculously excited. So, introducing Harvey

In his first collar, identifying him as the pup we've chosen.

After a rotten October, November has graced us with happy times. New pony and a new puppy arriving shortly.

I think this is why I've been so smitten with Harvey since I saw the first pics at a couple of days old.

He always looked like a cocker and has that really nice high dome to his head. I just think he's gorgeous. Of course, he will have very little white in his coat by the time he's matured as he's a deep dark roan. Will be exciting watching him change.

It is, isn't it?

I assume all breeders do the same, otherwise how can you be sure the pup you chose is the pup you go home with?

I like the idea of the collars. We used to put nail varnish on the puppies toes, puppy a would have varnish on left front, puppy b on right front and so on. But in actual fact once they got to about 4 weeks old I could usually tell them apart, although have to say their new owners couldn't when they came to see them again.

But in answer to your question - mostly, you cant

Mum used to have it all the time, people would select 'their' puppy and then not have a clue which it was when they were picked up at 9 weeks old

Always useful if the initial show prospect turned out not to be the pick of litter when the teeth came through

Yes, with GSDs it is 'you picked that brown and black one. No, not that black and brown one, THAT black and brown one
tongue.gif
'

Wonder if we could have got away with that when our pick of the litter show star that was going to reverse our ailing fortunes turned out to be a coatie

Mum's are all blenheim (brown & white) now, and it is amazing how difficult they are to tell apart if you dont live with them all the time - I can see how people could never pick out 'their' puppy
grin.gif
I just tell her helpfully that they all look the same to me

Ooooohhhh, I am SO jealous of all these people getting new puppies! I do love my lumpy old lady, but I NEEEED a puppy dammit!

We've only ever bought a brand new puppy once before, and she was easy to tell apart because it was a litter of Jack Russels and they all had very different markings. Poppy was the only perfect badger-marked one.

Imagine a litter of these...

At least ones that have markings have some vague differences!

The only way of telling them apart was their slight size differences, they all had to be marked so people got the right puppies.

Hen, I've never admitted this, but we NEARLY bought an IWS as a companion for N when we first had her - sadly it was spookier than she was, so not much point in bringing it home, and she hardened up eventually

Lovely dogs though

But the markings change beyond all recognition from when they are born to 8 weeks old

I like greyhounds, you never have a problem telling mine apart

Oh Patches, he is just adorable!

When I picked Beastie (or more to the fact, she picked me

) they painted sparkly blue nail polish on her back toes! (Don't tell her I told you that though
