Hi
My horse does not have sweet itch but he has an itch at / under / around the top of his tail causing him to rub it so hard against the breeze block wall of this stable that he has scraped the skin off in a couple of small spots under his tail. I have put anti-bac. gel on the scrapes but would like to find what is causing the itching so I can help him.

(N.B. He has been regularly wormed for at least the last 5 years most recently last week; egg counts are nil.
Any help appreciated, thank you.

Hi, i would sat pinworm!!! my horse was the same, if you go on viovet website look under wormers, i think it is vetramin it gets rid of hair skin and pin worm and costs less than £10!!!! well worth looking into hun, good luck hope that helps you

Thank you! I contacted the Vet who agreed that it sounded like pinworm and prescribed a 5 day course of Panacur Guard, followed by a week's rest then Strongid P, so I'm going with that for now. I have however had a look on the Viovet web-site and spent loads on other stuff! :-)

Yellowing around the anus is a sign of Pinworm..You can do a Sellotape test if you wanted to get it tested..Get a length of sellotape and stick it to the anus and then fold the sellotape in half (sticky side to sticky side) and send it of to the Laboratory
