My boy gets pretty itchy, more so when the weather is pretty warm, particularly on his tummy. He will get down when in the field or stable and rub back and forth (looks quite rude) to rub himself. All through last summer, I put him on D-Itch, but to be honest, it didn't have much of an effect. He often makes himself quite sore underneath and around his sheath and leaves open sores that attract the flies. I normally smother the cuts in sudocreme to try and protect him a bit.

Anyway, this year, because of problems with his legs, he has started living out, and to be fair, although he is obviously getting down and rubbing, because it has been so wet, he hasn't been able to do too much damage to himself. Yesterday, however, I had to bring him in for a couple of hours during the day, and whilst he was in, he was seen lying down and literally biting at his sheath and tummy. I was unable to ride him last night as he had a huge open sore right where his girth would be and it was very weepy.

I have got sweetitch shampoos, but they all seem to be for manes and tails, and he never really rubs these. Also, I am really worried about what to put on him as I don't know whether it would sting or aggravate the sores. I have started him on Wendalls Herbs Stop Itch as someone has recommended it to me, but has anyone else got any advice or recommendatios please? I hate seeing him like this

Net Tex Sweet Itch Salve Complete is great if a little messy. I use in on my SI cobbie's sheath belly, and face.

Thanks for that. Also, at the moment, his stable bed is straw. Because of the fact that he will only be in it for short times now I was thinking of putting in shavings instead as will be a lot easier to just skip out daily. If he was to lay down and rub on the occasions he has to come in, would they do less damage to him than straw? Straw is quite scratchy I think.

Chloe gets itchy hocks. We put Lincoln Tea Tree ointment on the open sores, and I smother her legs in aloe vera gel as well.
She's on feel good 30 skin supplement which has made a bit of a difference to how often she itches. It was one of the better supplements we've tried.

Does he wear a rug at all???
My mare tend to over react to flies so she has a total body fly rug that has a belly wrap and she hasnt itched at all now.
I also put her on the wendals to start with but as they fly replents and rug worked it did the trick!

Stinky is like this and last year was so bad that he ended up on steriods - £80 worth. He also rubbed the top of his tail - not too bad but enough to show he had been.

This year he has been a lot better - this is what I am doing:

Stopped feed garlic, but feed brewers yeast from March. Upped the linseed from March.

He wears a rambo protector - but without the neck cover all the time he is out.

I cover his sheath and belly in sudocream daily - he and Cairo very much enjoy having this done

He has his belly sprayed twice a day with my fly spray which I make up more oily than normally by adding more skin so soft. I also spray the inside of his legs and behind the sheath.

So far this year he has rubbed but nothing like before - I do wonder whether he is just a little w*anker as he does like having his todger looked after and rubbing it.
