For the last three to four days, my mare has been rubbing her bottom against the wall when I bring her in to tack up. She rubs really hard and kind of squats down so that she can rub her rear. She rubs so hard that she nearly slips over and its a devil of a job to then pull her away.

In addition to this, I have just been out for a ride for just under 2 hours and she had three wees during that time. Could this be just cos she's in season or could it be connected to the itching. My friend I ride with said she might have cistitus!

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Is she a total tart when in season and are there any stunning geldings/stallions in your area? Sounds like defo in season but she could have picked up an infection and if its cystitis she has my every sympathy coz its HORRRRRRID!

Thanks for that. Yes she is a real tart. Puts on a lovely walk when the boys are around. So would the itching also be cos she is in season.

My mare was itching her arse and making it sore whilst in foaling heat recently and she had a mild after foaling infection, which was being released whilst she was in season because her cervix was open, she needed some antibiotics. It is possible for mares to get uterus infections when not being bred from too if it persists the vet can do a swab whilst she is in season and check, keep an eye out for any unusual discharge if their isn't any discharge is is probably just being a tart.
