Itching when wearing a grackle....horse not me!

Question is as above really.....after 15 mins or so of wearing his grackle noseband he likes to rub it on his legs, usually while we are walking down the lane, resulting in me posing in an unflattering pose for passers by!
Is this usual? I am a stickler for things not being too tight, or loose, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on why, how etc.

Is it a general, 'i'm not keen on wearing this' or maybe when he does chew and gets a bit moist that this then itches?

In short he hates it. Samba did it with hers changed her to a drop and was much happier, she was constantly pulling the reins out my hands etc.

He doesn't do it all the time though. I didn't choose to put him in it, i've got a flash lying around that i could try tomorrow, is that worth a go?

I'm assuming it has a sheepskin circle on the bridge of the nose - what do you clean the sheepskin with?

Mine is exactly that same, i was thinking of trying a cavesson one day as i'm not totally sure he needs that grackle, condsidering he's a snaffle mouth. Will have a look and sort out another noseband.

Something mild, maybe even horse shampoo/baby shampoo. Make sure you dry the leather off as best you can, and leave it to dry naturally, then give it a good conditioning once it is dry.

If it looks a bit matted afterwards, I find a velcro cleaner to be very effective in fluffing up sheepskin and fleece - I use mine to revive my Clarendon boots after hunting.

B scratches whenever I used her flash so I tried a grackle and had same problem. She hates anything on her nose but gets her tongue over the bit - I jsut use the cavesson and do it up tighter than normal now. Doesn't alway work but it stops her scratching and head shaking

Is she hates anything on her nose - just use a normal cavesson and dont overtighten it? I hate flashes, grackles etc. they put too much pressure on their sensitive noses and simply cause tension. IMO a horse shouldn't need to have their mouthes strapped shut!
