Hi

I am going to the vet tomorrow with my dog as she has become really itchy. I changed her onto raw food in early March and up until about 2 weeks ago her coat looked so amazing it was glistening, it has now become a bit dull and as she is scratching bits of coat are coming out and she has scratched herself sore. I have tried her with piriton / EpiSoothe shampoo and Fuciderm cream which seem to have helped a little bit. She has just been treated with frontline and I haven't seen any signs of fleas which I normally would as she is light coloured. Has anyone else had any experience of frontline becoming ineffective?
I feed her Natural Instinct prepared raw food with additional offal and bones, she loves it and her energy levels are incredible, the advice I got from Natural Instinct was to cut out the chicken from her diet. I am worried that the vet will point the finger at the raw diet as the cause of her itching problem. She was on barking heads diet for about 6 years previously with one bout of itching that piriton cleared up...
Any advice / reassurance from you committed raw feeders out there please?

Frontline spot on has become ineffective, yes.

I would be tempted to do the isolation diet so yes, remove the chicken and give it two weeks then review. If no improvement, remove a different protein (lamb or beef or whatever) and do it again.

Sulphur shampoo is good for relieving itchiness and so is oatmeal shampoo. The vet may not know much about the raw diet and many are prejudiced due to lack of knowledge. I'm not even sure I'd mention it, tbh.

Thanks I'm not sure I will mention her diet, the itching has come on so suddenly I'm not sure it can be a reaction to her food, probably need a better alternative to Frontline. I will cut out the chicken and see if that has any effect, luckily she will eat anything!

Look at cleaning products you use, anything new in the house. Might be a reaction to something environmental, especially if you've been taking her on a different walk recently.
