My sis has a boxador (lab x boxer) for the last 3 weeks or so she has been very itchy.

She is 1year old. This coincides with a change in feed. I said it could be an allergy to something in the feed so take her off it.

They wont because they say someone told her that all dog feeds are made the same and just bagged up in different bags and sold for different prices.

How can i make her see that it may be the feed? I dont really want to get involved but the dog is itchy and not completely comfortable.

Any ideas people?

Well, when the dogs fur starts to drop out then perhaps she'll listen to you. Dog food varies a huge amount on ingredients and quality. The majortity of regular dog food contains mostly cereal flavoured with meat, dogs don't tolerate large amounts of cereal as it's not naturally part of their diet. You should always look for a dog food where the first ingredient is meat - mostly the more expensive ones.
Boxer dogs have very sensitive skin and allergic reactions to food is common.
The dog will continue to have this reaction unless she feeds it better food or gets it checked by a vet to eliminate other possible causes such as skin mites or eczema.

Whats a raw diet?

I dont have dogs of my own but when i did she got fed meat out of a can, so did my OHs mum and dads dog.

This one gets a complete food, in a sack. Dont get me wrong she looks amazing, very shiny and well covered etc a picture of health really just itchy

the above site gives lots of info on natural/raw diet.

this is what my boy eat each week it equates to about 4lb of meat per day. i feed by eye in the i can see if he needs more or less by his figure. floyd is maintaining his figure on this amount. my bitches eats less than this by about 7lb per week, and shes going to have to have it cut further as shes getting a little plump.

1lb liver
2lb heart
3 eggs raw
1 litre porridge made with goats milk
1 tub cottage cheese
1 large pot yogurt
3 cans cheap fish in tom sauce or oil
4 rabbits more if they are small, so about 8lb in weight per week.
6 lb chicken carcasses
10lb mince
pureed veg 3 times a week
pigs trotter or rib bones 4 times a week
1 tsp cod liver oil (daily)
400iu vitamin E (daily)
1000mg vitamin C (daily)

they also get a little rice and pasta when we have it because i always make to much (waste not want not).

thats about all i think. oh by the way they are great danes so eat a little more than than the norm.

jackie xx
