My male weimeraner has been really itching and nibbling his paws (just his front ones) and really wanting to itch his face the last couple of days. and ideas what it could be, he was only recently frontlined and nothing else has changed in his life style! my bitch is treated exactly the same and shes fine.

i washed his paws and round his face with hibiscrub yesterday but it doesnt seem to have made a difference. any ideas?

He could have developed an allergy - might be worth speaking to your vet if the problem persists. My lab's allergies started like this (he'd been fine for years) and in the end we found out he was allergic to eating poultry.

I would look closely at the diet first, all mine dogs have been rescues that have been fed on commercial diets for years before I put them onto raw, all have experienced itching for a period whilst they detox, the eldest dog took some time before he stopped itching.

So look at the ingredients and additives in what you feed. You may find that chaging diet improves the condition for a while, if it reoccurs then it's probably the bulk used, such as wheat or the additives/preservatives added to maintain shelf life.

Could be anything, tree and grass pollen, something he has picked up while outside (chemicals etc), household cleaners, carpets etc.
I have a brother and sister, one has allergies, the other doesn't, just one of those things.

If you can't or won't go raw as KK suggests, try a hypoallergenic food and try aloe vera gel on his itchy bits to soothe irritation and relieve heat.

Could be anything, but Nettles?

Otto goes nuts if he's been in the Nettles!

I've started giving my JRT piriton tablets as we think her itchyness is down to a grass allergy
Hi, I see you give your JRT Piriton how much do you give and is it safe My patterdale this time of year gets itchy tummy and it has heat in it i'm convinced its from grasses.

Just bumping this thread up, my JR has just started itching badly :( How much piriton should I try?

I took him to the vet once before about this, but they just gave him steriod injections, which I'm not very happy with, as it isn't sorting the problem out.
