Have got an itchy dog!!

She's about 10 or 11 we think, breed is Heinz 57 but probably collie X with gawd-knows-what!

About a year ago she went to the vet as needed a fatty lump thing removing from her leg. The vet said it was a "histamine lump" which is fairly common in older dogs; and that often the dog will present with symptoms of itching (she didn't on this occasion, it was a lump that came up over about a 12 months period).

We've treated her with "Advocate" flea treatment - and she's still itching. There are no visible signs of flea infestation and we've treated the house in case, as well.

Her feet, and backs of her legs seem to be especially itchy; and her paws seem to be quite pink & hot in appearance. She's also itching around her neck and underbelly area.

I'm wondering whether she might have got into some weeds or something that's irritating her and causing this???

We've not changed her feed (she's on Hills Science reduced calorie).

Anybody got any ideas? I'm going to ask the vet to take a look at her anyway, poor old lass. She seems to be better when in a cooler room rather than beside the rayburn.

You can use sucocrem or aloe vera gel to take the heat out of it and feed her as low a protein food as possible. These conditions can often be confused for parasite infection when no parasite is present, or it could be an allergy to the parasite....has she been put on an anti-histamine? Or shampoo?

Has anything else in the house changed? Carpet, cleaning product, bedding, anything outside, tree felling, grass cutting, pesticides?

I wonder if it might be blocked anal gland. Our old boy used to have this and sent him itching all over quick squeeze by the vet and he would be ok till the next time.
