Itchy dog

I have a wire hair fox terrier who is very itchy! Making bald patches all over himself, he will sit there and scratch the same spot for 10 minutes unless we step in and stop him before me makes himself sore. He has been to the vet a few times and been prescribed a special shampoo and tablets as vet thought it might be a pollen allergy, these have made no/ very little difference. Any suggestions? We have the vet again this evening what tests should we be asking for?

Has he been clipped?
If the hairs are not removed from the follicles by strpping or carding this can cause the symptoms you describe.

What are you feeding and how old is he & when did this start?

I wolud look f=to try and exclusion diet and look at allergens & coat maintainance.
