I have taken on a clumber spaniel that has been a working dog and lived out. When I first saw him he was covered with scabs and scratching himself stupid, often drawing blood. He has been treated using Advocate by the foster home and a steroid injection two weeks ago. Whilst living out fosterer says he has not been scratching(although as hes been out he is not under observation as much as when he has been in at my house) and the scabs have mostly gone. Got him back today and he has been scratching again and nibbling his paws. The heating is off (I am freezing ) and he has been mostly outside today. I treated the house with Indorex before he came just in case it was fleas, but am of the opinion now that its possibly mites. He has two more Advocate tubes to use from the foster home. Should I persevere with these . He does not seem a stressy sort but is it possible its stress bringing out the itch ? He has not been signed over to me yet so Im hesitating to take him down the vet again (foster person is quite dismissive of vets!) The dogs he has been living out with have not developed anything.
