Noticed a week ago that one of my dogs had a couple of fleas on them (not big infestation, just a couple lurking) so de-fleaed them both, as well as their beds etc. But they are still scratching. Have given then a good brush and checked again for visitors but nothing, no flea dirts or fleas. Any ideas? Spoke to vet this morning who said bring them in, which I will do, but there is nothing to see, apart from one dog having slightly pinker skin under his tummy. Nothing has been changed food wise.

Would they be allergic to the fleas? Even if the beaties are gone, if they are sensitive the old bites might still be bothering them.
Or a sensitivity to whatever product you used on them.

Have you thought that your dog might have an allergic reaction to something in everyday life? My JR was always itchy and it got so bad that when i finally moved vets the new vets suggeted a blood test to investigate further.... turned out he was allergic to grass & pollen & house dust!!not great for a JR that spends his life round the horses or tucked up with me on the sofa lol but the vets have had a special vaccination made up for him when he has once a month and now he is the picture of health and has been since it begun some 3yrs ago.

I used the Capstar tablets for the fleas and the same household flea spray that I normally use when the guests arrive! Thought perhaps a bath in some mild shampoo or is there a spray that anyone recommends (springer is not over keen on a bath)

I'm not sure, mine have never needed flea treatment (unlike their owner

) but I am sure your vet could advise.

OHL, my fella is very sensitive, allergic and is on antihistamines at the mo!

Mine have never had fleas, and then have had two infestations in the last 3-4 months. The only other thing I thought it could be is mange, but they are not scratching themselves bald or sore, just more than they should if that makes sense

I would discount an allergy to fleas/fleabites then with the vet, it is becoming more common (indeed there were two poor GSDs suffering quite badly with it on Animal 24/7 this morning)
