My 10 month old alaskan malamute puppy has recently been suffering from what seem to be itchy elbows. It's gotten to the stage where she itches them with her back legs at least every 15 minutes and bites the area untill it bleeds and the hair has fallen out. This has only happened over the last two weeks, I've looked at the area and can't see any cause for it. She was de-flead last week and has not been itching anywhere else. We can't take her to the vet at the moment as she is in season and don't want to risk it. Is there anything we can do to relieve the itching for her? Or does anyone know what it could be?

Sulphur tablets are good for itchy skin. You can get them from any chemist; think for that size, 2 a day should be about right. Once it has died down, I stop the tablets as don't want them to get immune to them because they do such a good job for our Border Terrier. You can also get Rock Sulphur from a pet shop which can be left in the drinking water.

My labrador had very itchy paws, took him to the vet and was told it was eczema. Bathed his feet every 2nd day with a solution from the vet, and within a week he was fine. Why don't you ring the vet and say she's in season so can you bring her when no-one else is around. By the way the stuff I was given was called Malaseb and it was brill.
