itchy face

ok so my horse has a really itchy face, now i washed it off other day with diluted hibiscrub which semed to work for few days but hes back to being itchy again, so is it just flies irritating him, no-one else seems to be affected as badly altho my mare does like a good rub on her face but is not constantly itching as he is.

Robbie went to liphook the other day for a check up and the vet said straight away that every horse hes seen for the last few weeks has had itchy faces, even those in full fly suits

he wasnt worried though

One of mine suddenly got a really itchy face a few weeks ago - he was rubbing it so it bled a bit, really nasty. I treated it with dilute hibiscrub at first (I thought he had just grazed it on something) which worked for about two days, like yours has, but if I left him longer than that, he started to rub it sore again. I got Fuciderm from the vet and he had that on twice per day for about 10 days and it seems to have cleared up now. Still no idea what it was!

Is it not grass mites? My horse had these tiny little scabs all over his face & was itching like crazy, he also had them round his fetlocks/coronet. My vet suggested grass mites & also said nothing to worry about, I found that insectiside shampoo fixed the problem for him
