Wondering if anyone has any ideas on this, our 8 ish week old foal has over the weekend started to rub her coat out. Not sure if she is doing this on a fence but assume so as mainly under her neck/down to her chest, with some patches behind her elbows and a small patch on her face.
Plan is to check for lice tomorrow and also to check mare, if lice are present (mare could have picked up from the stud perhaps) what products are safe to use on mare, and which on the foal? Would usually use Switch to treat lice, but there is no guidance on the back re: nursing mares/foals. Does anyone know if this is safe to use on the mare? Similarly, the foal? First thought would be to pick up a medicated shampoo for foal.
If not lice, does anyone know what this could be? I wondered whether it might have been the heat making foal itchy, but there is shade around the field.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
