Itchy foal??!

My fillie has been constantly itching! If shes not scratching herself on Her mum on the fence post or in her stable shes biting away at herself and has rubbed great big bald patches all over herself. Ive looked and looked but for the life of me cant find any licey type creatures on her anywhere, and her mums not itching at all. I gave her a good go witht he louce poweder just incase but that hasnt stopped her. Shes not loosing her coat at all yet either. I dont know what it could be but shes not a very happy girlie at the minute. Constantly itching away.
Any ideas?

give her a bath in insectisedatal shampoo and cover all her sore bits in stop itch salve from net tex and feed her itch free witch is a mixture of herbs fom d+d!

Well....you can go down the route of allergy testing her through your vet, but it's very expensive.
It might be worth rugging her, if you can get a small sweet itch type rug, or even just a cotton sheet might keep the insects off her?
Sometimes, when foal immunity kicks in (about 6 weeks old) you can get a little skin reaction til it balances itself out, so it might be that.
How old is she?

This is interesting as I have a yearling who constantly scratches herself. I too can find no creepy crawlies in her coat, but she is either rubbing her arse on the stable door or rubbing on the gate and when I groom her she seems to be in ecstacy cos I'm giving her "itch" relieif. I have put it down to the fact that she still has lots of baby fluff that she is shedding and that is making her itch. Just hoping its nothing too sinister...

As you can see, Probably due to the fact she was born around the time we had all that awful snow. She has one hell of a coat on her. I wondered if perhaps now its nice and warm that may be a reason for the itchyness... But like i said shes not losing any of her coat yet. Apart from the f*** off great bald patches shes rubbed all over herself

Youngsters can be itchy/scratchy people, particularly when they are shedding.
I suppose you ought to rule out ecto and endo parasites (lice etc, and worms), then if the itching becomes bad enough that the skin is broken, you really need to call your vets for more advice.
No one from a forum can really tell you why your foals/yearlings are itchy.

...Yeah i know. But not kowing a lot about youngsters i thought id give You all a shout and see if anyone else had any thoughts.

If it's been very midgy near you, maybe a little rug would do the job, if you can get one small enough, and it wouldn't hurt.

Wash her completely with Nizeral - she has probably got a fungal infection. My foal did just the same - I couldn't work out why he kept reversing under mum and rubbing his back on her belly. When I ran my hand over him I could feel tiny scabs in his coat. He had rain scald.

I diluted the Nizeral in warm water and lathered it up well, working into the base of the coat. Itching stopped within hours. I didn't rinse it off but allowed it to dry.
Nizeral can be bought from a chemist.
