I have had my rising 4yo since December and he is becoming progressively more itchy since I have had him. Started off at old yard he's just itch his head slightly when he came in and have a little scratch of his hips when I took the rug off. Put that down to getting a bit warm in the field or his thick winter coat (he was quite scurfy when I got him). We have now moved to a new yard and he is getting worse and has scratched so much that he has bald patches above his eyes and around the side of his face where he is rubbing his head on the door. I have had the vet out who checked for lice and said it's not that, could be mites but I thought they were just in feathers? She suggested to bath him in insecticidal shampoo which i have done and made no difference. i have also now clipped him to try and see if there was anything underneath and he has a few scabby bits on his neck and what looks like an old ringworm scar, so I have treated with imaverol twice to be on the safe side (will be continuing the course and treating 2 more times as does seem slightly less desperate to itch since this but thought it might have made a more) and disinfected everything everyday, have also hot clothed with dettol and washed his tail in case it was the scurf making him itch but no still itching!! It's driving me mad and it must be driving him mad! Like don't get me wrong it's not all the time but when he comes in and whilst he's waiting for his dinner he's rubbing his head and bum up the wall for a while.
I have also tried cutting out his minerals (equivita), adding and cutting out linseed, adding and cutting out turmeric, adding salt to his feed and he is now having plain fast fibre and a handful of hifi. He has had hay from 3 different suppliers so can't be that?! Have had him rugged and without a rug and no diff
I don't know what to try next, possibly getting the vet out for some allergy tests?? Any suggestions??
