Itchy horse! Anyone recommend Naf D-itch?

Jerry has been quite itchy since February. I first took him off Alpha-A oil as I thought that might be causing it. He was a bit better but still rubbing sometimes so I put that down to him either being warm in his rug or because he is losing his winter coat.
However he is still rubbing his mane and his face and so is his stable companion now.
We had the vet out today to look at them both. She couldn't see any lice and she didn't think it was sweet-itch as it was unlikely that they would both develop it at the same time when neither horse has been affected by it before.
She has taken some scrapes to examine and left some hibiscrub for us to bath them both.
Anyone any suggestions?
Has anyone tried the Naf D-itch?
Thanks.

sounds like the midges have been having a feast, I recommend avon skin so soft, it takes the sting out of the bite and if mixed with a bit of lavender oil will also help repell the midges.

We are about to try Global Herbs "Skratch" for an itchy cob. It smells vile but on another forum several people have said it has worked. Providing we can get him to eat it we hope it will stop the tail rubbing and general itchiness. It also acts as a fly repellent.

I had a mare who itched her mane out last summer. Completely stopped itching on D-Itch

Thanks for the replies
QF - I think it probably is midges as we seem to have a lot about at the moment but am going to try cooper's fly repellent as recommended by the vet!

Blagdon - I haven't heard of 'Skratch'! I'll look out for it. Post on here how you get on with it - I'd be interested to know.

Folara and LL - Thanks, I think I'll try it. It's got to be worth a try. How long did you have to feed it to your mare before you noticed a difference?

I used NAF D-Itch for 2 years in a row, took him off it last year and he wasn't itching as much, didn't rub anything out etc and he has mild sweet itch. This year he has been fine without it. In my opinion its all a marketing scam, mine certainly seems better off without it!

I noticed her mane growing back after a couple of months which probably means she stopped itching fairly quickly

Mine had a whopping itchy urticaria reaction a few years back, and is very sensitive to fly bites. He has D Itch all summer, but its probably more for our peace of mind. You never know though.

I have been using Global Herbs Skratch - my gypsy cob gets mild SI - this and brewers yeast have worked wonders. Have now given it to the old clydie who is an itchy chap.

Only one problem with Skratch - has the side effect of making the horse stinky - cat pee and fox pee combination - as long as you can put up with the pong, it really seems to do the trick.

Chancer is 15.1 cob and gets a heaped tablespoon twice a day. Cairo is a 16.3 clydie and gets the same amount as he is not so itchy.

I feed this from start of March to end of October. In winter I halve the amount.

We feed our shettie brewers yeast all year round he has quite severe sweet itch. QR - The vet said that the supplement probably won't help him that much, we are yetto try. The best help he has had is his boett they are worth every penny. We have now tried the cheaper solva icelandics rug and they are just as good. We also use Avon skin so soft and have some piriton syrup handy if he gets really bad that seems to work a treat.

Nope, made no difference for my horse. Plus, it left horrid residue in his tail which in addition to matting made for a bog brush behind!

Well I have been out and bought the D-itch feed supplement because I really feel I must try something!
The vet rang back today to say she could find no sign of lice or mites from the scrapes.
I have bathed the horses twice and covered them in cooper's fly repellent as recommended by the vet.
If this doesn't work I will have to invest in a whole body style midge cover. The fly sheet I have at the moment doesn't cover his face and that's where he is rubbing most.
If he improves with D-itch I shall let you know!!
Thanks for all your replies so far xx
