Every winter my Shetland gets so itchy he rubs himself bald around his shoulders, his mane, around his bum and loses half of his tail. I can only put it down to being too hot??? He does grow a very thick coat.
He doesn't have lice, he isn't rugged and this year he has been fed nothing but hay. I clipped him late winter last year to try and releive him of the itching but I didn't *this year.
He doesn't itch at all over the summer.
Has anyone experienced this before? If needs be I will just clip him at the begining of every winter and rug him but it would be good to know what is causing it.
