I have checked her mane and forelock but cant see any eggs, just a small amount of scurf. Rode her the other day and she shook her head and her body quite a lot, so seems likely she has the little beasties and theyre just hiding! Won't do her any harm if I de-louse her and she doesnt actually have an infestation, will it? Whats the best product to use?
Thanks

Vid of itchyness, just to make this post more interesting

I use an organic powder, can't remember the name but it is basically corn powder going by the ingredients. Think it chokes the little b****rs to death! Think it is a Gold Line product, got it in my local horse shop, will check tomorrow. Seems to work well, although you need to use it a few times because of the eggs hatching.

The video just shows that she rolls - I'm sure you know this - but not that she has lice.

What makes you think she has lice?

I doubt very much it will do any harm if you take action against lice and she may not have them. Just don't delice in an inclosed space. This will protect she and yourself from inhaling the dust from the lice powder. Is her mane in it's usual condition?

I have lice powdered my horses this week, and did it last week too because he was scratching like mad! He didn't seem to have scratched last night, so hoping it might have worked. Other horses at the yard have been de-liced too.

If you call the vet, they will either give you frontline, switch or ridect. This is much more successfull than louse powders. Wont do any harm, but theres no point in just delousing one horse, have a look at the other horses and see if you can find something on them. Look in the tail, behind the ears, and the fluffy bit of hair directly below the mane, in my experience they seem to like these areas most.

Thank you everyone will do, one of the other liveries suspects her pony has them too, will make sure they all get a dose.
Re: vid - like I said, was just a little something to add a bit of interest to the post. I know she's rolling, but she's clearly itching a lot too. Her roll usually consists of down, roll, up, shake. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough
