Itcy legs mystery

Horse has feather mites which have been treated by all recommended methods. I never see him stamping his feet in the stable or when standing around being groomed etc. However as soon as I turn him out he starts stamping his foot for a few seconds then walks off. I even give his legs a good scratch with a hard brush to try and make him react
when hes in the stable but he doesn't react at all. Any ideas?

I will watch this thread with interest as my girl has been treated for feathers mites and she doesnt stamp anymore but still itches her legs on the wheelbarrow when I am mucking out.....

Um ......... don't know whether I'm able to throw any light here, BUT mine is a traddie cob and we frequently have problems with his legs, i.e. sores on the back of the knees, itchy feet etc etc.

A few years ago he started stamping one of his hind feet repeatedly - and very hard - on the ground. I'd tried to make sure his legs were OK, had treated the mites etc., and was at a loss to see why he was doing it.

Then I just happened to be picking out his feet........ and something small and white...... MOVED!!! It was a maggot, crawling out of a gap in his hoof on the frog bit. After I'd finished swooning (it was horrible ) I rang the farrier, who was not at all fazed and said that as it had been wet and damp (can't remember when exactly this was) a lot of horses he'd seen had had maggots in their feet!!!! because the wet weather had softened the hoof and then the maggots had got in through something like sheep poo in the field; and finding a nice warm, moist place, had used it.......... gross

Solutiion: salt water solution into the aperture (use a plastic syringe) and then purple-spray. And/or (old solution) stockholm tar.

So wonder whether this is what's troubling yours OP???

Just a thought: it was when you said repeated stamping, that rang a bell.

PS that purple spray from feed store is no use, you need the vet spray

Havent seen anything untoward in feet but will doublecheck tomorrow! I did wonder if it wasn't itchy legs but he might have a problem with his sheath, build up of smeg or something, but I had a good root around yesterday and it wasn't that !
