Well, i've had most of my tack stolen in 2 raids over the last 10 years and never seen or heard about any of it again...until last week. Someone leaving the livery yard that i keep my horse on was having a pre-move clear out and very kindly offered me some stuff for free.
One of the items was a Stubben breastplate and it was mine from a burglery 10 years ago. I recognised it straight away because it had an unusual identifying mark unique to it.
The person who gave it to me would have been too young to have been mixed up in the original theft but it did make me think that some of our stolen tack doesn't actually get very far from where it was stolen from.
By the way, they got it from a 3rd party who couldn't remember where it came from. Right.
Too many people are prepared to buy stuff cheap without questions even if it has "fallen off the back of a lorry". There are a total of 7 saddles out there that were once mine and somebody is using them, probably without knowing they were once stolen
