Is it just me or is anyone else angry about the way Lucy Wiegersma has been treated by the selectors. I really like Piggy French and if her ride was Some Day Soon I would'nt have a problem at all but having looked at Jakata's results can'nt see one which justifies his selection. No one would be more delighted to see Pippa back on a GB team but the lovely Redesigned has 2012 stamped all over him and as Pippa has brought him on very sensibley why rush him to a four star, especially one so far away, now. On the other hand "Scooby" has consistantly good results at both 3 & 4 star level and to make him non travelling reserve is an insult not just to Lucy but also Ginne Lyne, the horse's owner. Even if they get to go now all the pleasure will have been taken out of it. This is'nt the first time Lucy has been badly treated by the selectors and I would love to know why. Be interested to hear what other HHOers think about this.

I agree, it makes you wonder what the point is of getting good results at the big events if a horse that has never completed a 4* is picked for the team. I'm just a bit confused really, has anyone seen Jakata compete?
And just to add- Lucy's horse has made the trip to Kentucky before and done well (clear XC and SJ with a decent dressage)

I did a report for Eventing Nation and wrote exactly all that!! I said what is the point of 4* competitions if they ignored the results and selected 3* results. Even more annoyingly I felt that Houghton was a weak CIC3* (if an unqualified can win and Chilli Morning who won has hardly been glowing at 4* since) especially compared to Chatsworth CIC3* where Lucy W was 2nd.

It does seem odd but I gather the thinking was that Bramham this year was very strong (more like a 4* than not) and therefore the horses that did well there were considered good candidates. I do feel sorry for Lucy though, she's not had much luck with selection.

hmm...i was very surprised to find Jakata was selected he isn's what you would call the most well known and consistant horse i would of thought if they were going to pick Piggy they would pick her on Lemington Lets Dance as Some Day Soon isn't Right atm...interested by Lucy though

must be some reason why lucy continues to be ignored.have the powers that be some reason to doubt her temprement or team spirit or what?because on form alone she would have been a cert.

I am also at a loss to understand why Lucy is not in the team. I spend a lot of time training at Lucy's yard and can only say what a straightword, talented and sound horse 'scooby' is, couple this with Lucy's dedication and commitment and they are a great combination. His form has been very consistent in the last two season with his only blip being at Badminton where lets face it many good horses had a problem. I cannot understand the selectors overlooking them in favour of relatively unproven horses and do not know what Lucy has to do to get in the team.

Don't forget she was also treated very badly at the Olympics where she was demoted to a reserve.

Politics, not performance.
Lucy is consistently a very talented rider, in my top ten in the world, tbh, and deserves to be on the team. Unfortunately, she's outspoken, and whilst I applaud that, the egos at the top are a touch sensitive.

While Houghton was not a big 3* it meant that Piggy had the experience of a new ride at that level who then looked VERY good at Bramham. She was never going to put a gun to his head the week before a CCI 3*.Lemington Lets Dance hasn't had the best history with regard to soundness so Jakata has to be a better proposition. Maybe Lucy's temperament has been queried - losing your temper at team training doesn't endear you to the powers that be! The selectors are all people that know what is required at World and Olympic level so I suspect that they are not as daft as some may think.

Still egos though - I don't think Lucy's riding has ever been compromised by her outspokenness, and results whilst riding is what it should be about.

If you face fits...... Such is life be it in the horse world or not. Quoting Bill Gates "life isn't fair get used to it"!

I think both Lucy and Sharon should have been selected. Pippa and Piggy are in favour at the moment but I agree that Redesigned would be a 2012 horse and Jakate and Lemmington Letts dance are a bit inexperienced this year. heard on the grapevine that there are problems with 3 of the team horses anyway so watch this space!!

A lot of people have short memories as far as SH and TT are concerned he has become very unreliable at starting ,remember back to last years europeans I am surprised he is even on the reserve list. These young horses need bringing in or you will never know and you will be stuck
with horses without the experience they have a nucleus of a good team so giving the younger horses an individual slot.

AFAIK he didn't have any problems starting at Badminton or Luhmulen this year...

Oh yes I remember Badminton!!!.However back to the starting issue Fontainebleau was not the only time he has refused to start in the recent past,as good a horse as he is I do not think he would be reliable enough for an automatic team place.

these wouldn't happen to be the three who have minor injures from barbury or before. i'm thinking of Imperial Cavalier, MF, and Jakata. if so the selectors knew about this when they selected and from what i heard all minor.

As in the European Championships at Fontainebleau? He wasn't even there! Surely he deserves an individual spot.

He has napped at Barbury, Fontainbleau normal and Badminton. There are more I think but these are the big ones where he has really napped coming out of the start box.

I've witnessed LW lose her temper at a biggish event before in public, so maybe that's why she isn't in favour?

He started fine at Badders this year and at Luhmuhlen. SH says on her website that she has a new way of managing him at the start - obviously working. I think they totally deserve a place as an individual, not team.
