for all the times my boy has 'flown' out of the stable the minute i've opened the door enough (he's allowed to wander around while i muck out) it was worth it to see him this morning.

i rugged him up, opened the door. he went to burst out, slid to halt and took three steps backward. i was in stitches!

he then took up place behind me and gingerly followed me out the door - it's nice to know that sometimes i'm still needed as a safety blanket!

good luck in all this snow, take it easy. x

My old chap doesnt do rain, snow, sun etc!!! He used to love his creature comforts- and still does- and I used to leave his door open whilst I mucked out, knowing that he wouldnt step out in the snow or rain.
One year we had horrendous snow and the drifts by the gate to his paddock were about 3ft deep- up to his belly. He'd been in his stable a few days and was clearly needing to stretch his legs so went AWOL from stable into his field, still in his pyjamas. Well. the snow felt like soft, fluffy cotton wool and he just had to roll- in the drift! As he put his head down the whole drift caved in on him, covering his whole head! It was so funny! Youve never seen a horse get up so quickly and stand so sorrowfully by the gate to come back in!! Looking distinctly like a polar bear!!! Funnily enough, hes never done it since!!
