Reading comments on the forum about how long it can take to bond with a horse; yes, ok, I've perhaps taken the proverbial, but I would like to think that after 18 months P & I are beginning to get there.

If I look back over the past year and a half, I am quite embarrassed as to how naive I was when I bought P; how quickly one's confidence can be shattered, and how long it can take, if you are numpty like me, to build it back up.

P took the p several times, but I have learnt from it. I have to say I think the farrier picking up that she may have laminitis and was far too fat was the kick I needed; and then P was so good when on box rest for a fortnight. I loved having her in a stable next to the house, she greeted me every day when I got home, and only kicked the door when she was better and ready to go out again! We have got her weight down.

I have got wonderful support from a girl who comes and rides her for me, and has encouraged me to ride her again, and helped with with handling her on the ground.

This afternoon, with a double dose of rescue remedy I have been out in the fields with P on my own, and she behaved beautifully.

Ok, pride comes before a fall - but at least I have now bought a back protector!
