RANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sick of ebay, why are things not selling?
Have just had 1 rhino rug not go and have a fal ending soon thats not even got 1 bid but both had loads of watchers!!! Usually oldstyle Fal's sell really well?!

Have just put a saddle on there too, wishing I hadn't bothered now!

So wheres everyone selling their stuff nowadays?

you choosing the wrong days and times for it to end. especially if its only just ended.

I find things sell better if they end on a thursday about 9pm, also its not payday is it?? and most people have had 5 week months.

are the rugs new or used- i have sold used rugs but i personally never buy used rugs.

I am looking for rugs at the moment for my 2 lovely boys - but I am finding second hand rugs are now becoming quite expensive on ebay so I dont look too hard these days... however am willing to look if you point me in the right direction (5'9 / 6'0 / 6'3 / 6'6)....

Agree with DQ no one has any money at the moment!

Always plan around payday as people seem to have a bit to spare then before all the direct debits go out on the 1st of the month.

Also what reserves have you put on there? If they are realistic and with not over the top P&P then you shouldn't have a problem.

You could look around for table tack sales is another outlet to sell unwanted items

Thursdays???? Wonder why?

I did think that about the money actually when I just put the saddle on and I said I'd be willing to wait for payment...

I always sell used rugs and usually get a decent price but I like to use a starting price- especially as the ones I sell are excellent quality down to my rug addiction lol I will only use for a season if that and my boy looks after them well.

I dont think Im being greedy either...the fal is a golliath thats a bloomin good rug its washed, proofed etc I've started at £99 which I thought was a good price :/

May try once more at the end of the month then (on a thursday!) and try elsewhere if still no good!

Annoying thing is, i put a newmarket sheet of my friends on starting at 99p and I bet that'll go for bloomin loads!!!

I used to buy all my rugs from ebay, as you basically got a good bargain, but now i dont really as the postage people ask is just ott.
A friend sent me 2 5'9" h/w rugs and it only cost £7.10 and most sellers on ebay want min £10 for a l/w rug, and it is just a rip off

Sorry wasn't advertising lol but my rugs are all 7 foot! :)

Yea the 2nd hand rugs are all being bid on- except mine!!!!!!!!

Yea will probably try again at the end of the month.
Rather than put reserves on as then the bidder wont know how much I expect, I put in a starting price, as already said £99 for the fal and I started my saddle at £199 which may seem alot for a thorowgood t6 but its in ace condition and still has the label on that proves it cost me £455! I cant risk it going for less- like my other items...apart from my friends!!!

I start everything at 99p and I find things end at a better price because they attract more bidders, who will fight it out at the end. A high start bid puts people off even bothering to bid to start with.

You seriously have to time it right: Thursday as someone said is good-people tend to be at home and finish it after tea time and when people are back from work.

Use good quality photos-a fab inhand bridle I was selling was ignored until I adjusted the picture and description-built it right up and then had amazing feedback from the buyer!

TBH, despite being an ebay fiend, I'm ignoring it currently: just had an expensive Christmas, got everything I asked for, got all the rugs I needed last year in the snow, I won't be paid til last working day and am not prepared to fork out for anything non-essential.

Given the recent unexpected cold weather, I bet you a lot of people have bought the rugs they needed already.

I agree with Bitlessbill- a low starting bid seems to bring everyone in where as a high one does turn us away.

What about advertising on Facebook? There's lots of tack pages for all sorts of areas now-people seem to be selling loads quite well.

As for saddles-tough one! Have bid on so many that started at 99p and went for 800 odd-totally nuts, got out bid more times than I care to remember. Then out of the blue one day a buy it now price 450 so bought it! Got a brand new saddle at a third of the price as seller just wanted a good home for it. Bargain!

thursday - generally most people get paid on a thursday, or if not they arent out with friends or family - fridays are pretty crap for selling tbh.
Sundays work quite well as well because people dont want to go back to work, telly is rubbish, lets look on ebay.

did you say the rug was £99? if so thats probably why it may not be selling, ebay is for bargains - especially when you think i picked up 2 rugs which should have been £90 for £40 inc delivery from pets at home in their sale.

if i was selling a £99 rug i would not expect to get anywhere near that price if i wanted a quick sale. more like £45

I do find that the 99p starting bid can work but you need to be sure that its something people will have a bidding war over!

otherwise offer Buy It Now or a best offer,

I wouldn't spend £99 starting price on a second hand rug. I wouldn't even look at it. Even if it's a good rug, i reckon 70 might catch my attention a lot more. £100 seems a lot for a rug which has been used to who knows what degree and comes with no warrenty etc. I know new rugs don't, but if something fell off after 1 day you could at least go back to the shop to complain.

Maybe it would do better in a local tack shop second hand part, where people can see for themselves how good condition it is in. Hard to tell without seeing it in the 'flesh' no matter how many pictures.

As an ebay seller and attempts at buying i notice that people pay far too much for some items. This is fine if your the seller but as a buyer with all the online sales these days you can buy new for the same if not cheaper, esp as mentioned before with the postage people charge.
I agree about finish times, i had my eye on an item then realised it finished at 1AM, with work the next day i had no chance, you do have to think about days, times and fair postage - almost be in competition with that i'd rather pay less for the same standard of posting.

i personally wouldn't even look at a rug that had a starting price of £99. you could put a reserve on it, buy it now or best offer and do a lower starting price.

i've found ebay to be quite expensive these days, it used to be a good place to pick up a bargain but not anymore. half the things i've looked at on there i have ended up buying from an online shop/company for half the price, brand new.

i would also time the ending for around 7pm (ish) on a thursday or sunday night, friday and saturdays are bad cos most people go out.

Personally I won't buy 2nd hand rugs anymore, no point when you can get new for cheap as chips. I tend to now buy cheaper and if they last great, if not I buy another next year if I have the money..if not they cope with a ripped and badly repaired rug. Money is very tight so expensive luxury items are out. Ebay certainly isn't a cheap place to buy items anymore, as a seller I've sold alot of items for more than I paid for them..fabulous for me but stupid for the buyer.

^^^ This. Start lower, and quite often people will get caught up in abidding frenzy :D

I sold a saddle on eBay recently, an ancient throwogood that I was given about 8 years ago and it was old then. It was in decent condition though.

I had it up at a start price of £50 and just kept re-listing it, someone brought it on the 5th time for the £50 and when they came to get it they were dead chuffed! Said it was nicer then they expected.

So free saddle, 8 years of use and £50 can't go far wrong with that!

If you want to sell your items, maybe drop the start price but just keep re-listing, someone will buy them eventually :)

I agree with this. You can get a decent new rug for a very reasonable price nowadays, I wouldn't even look at a second hand rug for £99 + P&P even if it was the best rug in the world.

If you really want to sell you may have to consider lowering the starting bid.
