So its now day 4 since the beasties MF got to its worst
crazy.gif
. The clingfilming has really helped
grin.gif
. So we now have no more scabs
grin.gif
, swelling
grin.gif
or heat
grin.gif
, however weve still got a bit of redness

frown.gif
, but its still a big achievement in only 4 days. The trimeds and bute have certainly played their part though in it.
Lunged her last night and shes absolutely sound so thats a big bonus too especially after 4 days in the stable with no turnout. Decided that Id clean her legs up properly so washed them with Tea Tree shampoo then left her overnight with her Thermatex boots on.
So BIG THANK YOUs to everyone who offered help and info and some photos to show you where we are at now!! Now im just waiting on YO's husband to say I can turn her out on the hardcore for some controlled exercise with no mud

. Fingers crossed hell say Yes.

Great to hear it's working, the clingfilm method does sound weird but having used it lots of times, I can prove it works.
Your problem now of course is stopping it reoccurring, I would use the black mud fever powder keratex or drapolene before turning out or those chap things specifically for mud. Or any of the ideas suggested re oily things, the plan is to stop the same conditions arising again.
I can never really work out why we call it mud fever because it's a bacteria that enters the skin via a small place and does it's worst! I suppose the mud makes for perfect wet conditions for it to thrive afterwards!

thanks ever so much HH for this advice I really appreciate it.
Have been leaving her leg open now to the fresh air whilst shes stabled rather than keeping tonnes of cream on it. Its looking very healthy now.
Ive cleaned all her boots up & disinfected them to make sure nothing is on the boots for when she next wears them.
Im wondering though whether the boots are aggrevating it??? just that the hair on her OH is a bit rubbed but no MF so im thinking of booting her fronts and leaving her backs without for a while to see how she gets on. Have got some protocon so I was thinking that id use that at first to stop the wet getting to her leg. Shes staying in for another couple of days as I dont want it to flare up when ive just got it under control. My thoughts are just to clean her hooves up and wipe any mud off the cream then in the mornings re apply the cream then at a weekend clean her legs up full.
It looks like ive got a little paddock for her that inst too wet so hopefully shell be able to get some turnout even if its only a few hours in the morning and night when Im doing my jobs. At least shell be stretching her legs. Then hopefully the paddocks will start to dry up.
Totally agree with the name thing.Like you said its probably because it thrives in the mud with it being a lovely breeding ground for the bacteria.

I am so pleased with it. It really seems to have come on loads in only a few days. Didnt think the clingfilm thing would work but it has done. Wouldnt hesitate to use it again or recommend it to other people.

thank you S_B. shes going to have to have a play out tomorrow. Shes so bored in the stable (shes been in nearly 1wk) even though shes got likits hung from the roof, snakaballs and lots of haylage to munch on. I think shes done well to stay in like she has - only bit of damage is to the stable door but never mind - did tell YO to put metal strips on them!!
going to slap lots of protocon on her & see how we go! fingers crossed itll work
