There is a horse at the yard where i work, she is a TB i think about 6/7 yrs old and an absolute cow bag (but i like her anyway!)
She is nasty and can be difficult- a nightmare to catch when turned out and evil in her stable - if your mucking out you have to be careful not to get bitten or double barrelled! Her ears are constantly flat back and teeth flashing.
If you try,as i have done on many occasions to be quiet and slow and make friends she is having none of it!
But... my daughter can do anything with her!!! she comes to call in the field or even just comes when she see's her approaching and is quite sweet with her in the stable (although obviously i wouldnt let her in alone just incase) but this little horse just seems to have clicked with her!
My daughter loves her very much- I'm not certain wether she actually would if the horse was easy for everyone or if its more a case of everyone going "omg look at the difference" etc
Now i have been offered the horse by its owner for free as they are a bit worried about selling as she is so nasty but as she is happy with my daughter they think she could grow into her. She already rides horses of this size so its not a huge leap up for her and apparently its quiet to ride- They are in no hurry to actually get shot of her so no pressure.
She's not a horse i would buy because of her temprement and if i'm honest i really cant afford the keep of another TB horse (or another any horse i suppose!)
But it made me think, do these "story book" reletionships really happen or are we pushing our luck letting her handle this mare (it makes life so much easier us!!!)
Should i try and let her have it maybe in a year or so? Thoughts please!
