i had a phone call on Friday night - someone wanting livery for 2 horses and 2 ponies. I said I could fit them in and told her stable sizes grazing arrangements she was happy about that, discussed everything she wanted including price and asked to come round on Sat at noon. I asked if she could do another time as I was hoping to get out wind surfing. but no it had to be noon. So I agreed as she seemed desperate.

So I dashed around getting my horses sorted in the morning, so I would be free. And she didn;t turn up. And couldn't even be bothered to phone.

So please if you make arrangements to view a yard, we yard owners really don't mind if you find somewhere else - but please at least have the common decency to ring and say thanks but no thanks so you don't waste our weekend. We are already on call 7 days a week and really don't appreciate hanging around for timewasters like that.

Sorry rant over

I have had this sooooo many times and it is extremely inconsiderate, especially if you have set your workload around showing people round the yard. When I first started up I would give people an hour or so. Nowadays they get half an hour and thats it. My time is too valuable to be wasted

When people phone now to make arrangements, I always ask them to have the courtesy to ring beforehand if they cannot make it.

Why do so many people find it so difficult to pick up a phone these days? very rude.

It is common curtesy to ring and say that you are unable to be there. I think I must be getting old, because it didnt used to happen !! There doesnt seem to be much respect for other peoples time .
( I live not far from Okehampton!!) but it wasn't me!

We went to see a yard and were very enthusiastic whilst we were there, took home the contacts and said we'd get back to them etc etc although nothing was certain, but then (literally overnight) our circumstances changed so decided not to go. Gave them a ring to explain and they sounded truely shocked that we HAD let them know as most people wouldnt have bothered, seemed like common curtesy to me... sounds like something that lots of people seem to know nothing about!

To be honest if they are that sort of person I am glad they didn't come as that is obviously acceptable to them and it's not how the liveries I have or I work. It's a lovely friendly yard, all the liveries get on and we have no bitchiness whatsoever. I guard that carefully and insist on seeing everyone before I agree to them bringing their horse so I can be sure they will fit in with the fantastic liveries I have here already. It only takes one inconsiderate person for a great yard to fall apart - so their loss not mine. Just a bit annoyed about my wasted day. If they ring again there won't be any free stables

i must admit, i have a few numbers in my mobile listed as 'timewaster' so if they do call again in the future to ask about stables, we are full! in the past we have been too soft, and someone hasnt shown, then called a week later with an excuse, we've made another appointment and then they havent shown up.
i had one a few weeks ago and it was very annoying as when we made the appointment, i did say i had newborn twins that i would have to take with me, so they knew i was waiting at a yard, with two little babies and still they never called

hope you get a nice livery on soon to fill your space.
