so fox is to be wormed on tuesday.. never an easy task. last time i think i ended up with more wormer in my mouth than he did :o

he wont eat his feed if i put it through that.. so any tips?

also vets coming to do his teeth on tuesday, so should i worm before or after the sedation..?

oh to have a nice easy horse

My mare has a tendancy to hold it in her mouth until you turn your back and then spits it out! You can hold her head in the air for half an hour if you like, you can see she has sucked her mouth in, and as soon as you let go its spat out!!

So now for her I pull our her tongue, skirt it in, let go of tongue and she cant spit it out ;) She doesn;t like it much but it means we hjave a quick qorming session with no fuss!!

As for the sedation part, I cant help you with that one! :)

Mine scoffs hers down! I did read a great tip on here once - someone was giving hers a bit if apple sauce in a syringe every day to prep! Couldn't wait to get it in aparently! May be worth a shot

thats such a good idea, i so wish id heard of this sooner! i wont be back up til monday as my sharer has him all weekend so i wont have time to try! i will keep this in mind for when they get wormed again for summer!

I just hide the wormer in a nice mushy feed mixed with molasses - I daren't try and squirt the wormer directly into his mouth as I don't have a death wish!

i put treacle in it (lots of it) to the point they cant taste it, bit of redi grass as they love it, lots of fast fibre and some codlavene powder... there is no way they can taste it in that :o they dont spit it out either :) and mine are the worst for spitting it out!!

haha sounds a treat! i dont want to have to buy a whole load of stuff just for one worming though :( i used to make him a huge feed with lots of polos and mints and carrots and redi grass with mollasses through it, was a total waste, he took one sniff and just turned his nose up (literally!) hes got a 6th sense about wormers!
