Its the little things isn't it ???

My horse is always hard work to ask anything of but I don't take it personally cos he's like this with everyone, he doesn't seem to need people, but on Friday he wedged himself into somewhere he shouldn't have been and it could have been nasty if he panicked, but he didn't, he let me reverse him and get him to safety without any fuss and for some reason I was over the moon cos I felt he recognised I could help him. Am I being stupid.

What's stupid about it? As you say, its the little things which make us happy around horses. Its not all about winning oodles of rosettes or jumping higher than anyone else, its the bit when your horse whickers in pleasure when she sees you, or when she puts her head on your shoulder to snuffle you, or even when you sit out the silly panic attack and you know that your horse has calmed down because of YOU.

You shouldn't feel stupid at all, and certainly not over something as important as your horse trusting you. What's to feel stupid about ?!

You're right it is the little things - I agree.

I get ridiculously happy over the most insignificant things. Like yesterday.

Super canter, on and on - up and round a bend - OMG great big log - over we pop - no big deal!

It's not stupid - I wish mine was so sensible. She broke out of her field on Thursday and went up the corridor thats wide enough for a wheelbarrow. Decided to turn round and got stuck. Instead of letting me help her she calmly sat down, swivelled round and bu**ered off!!!

I think that's a very big thing and you should be really pleased! A horse's instinct is to panic and run, so the fact that he listened to you and waited for you to help him is amazing - very trusting!

Ah thankyou all so much, maybe he does value me in some small way. When I read all the tales on the forum about everyone's cuddly horses I feel so envious cos mine only lets me fuss him when he's ill. I'd love him to be a big softy.

Bless him! it is the little things! i was so proud the other day- jumped off my girlie- wasnt paying attention and she put her head down to scratch her leg getting her foot caught in reins, BUT instead of panicking and snapping her reins she calmly stood there with her foot suspended in the air whilst i freed her! it made up for all the times shes a silly moose!

I think that because the problems are so scarry and difficult to deal with, we tend to forget all the times our horses are actually well behaved when they could have been terrible!
