itv now top 100 dogs

I’ve no idea what figures they based it on for schips to end up 89th, especially up against all the cross breeds too. There were only 21 born in the UK this year.

I’m afraid I watched the schip (my little dude’s granddad), fast forwarded to sibes and then turned over ‘cos the commentary was annoying. :p

I’m another who has no idea how they came up with the list. If it was most common would tbe corgi really be at twenty something for instance? The poo crosses took up a good few places, even some I’d never heard of. I was surprised to see boxers in the top 10, I haven’t seen one for ages.

apparently it was a public vote. i only came across this by chance and thought viewers were going to vote ,then realised voting was closed....anyone know when the vote took place and who voted? i was surprised the staffy came out on top when there are so many in rescue, and second was the cocker crossed with poodle, basically a crossbreed!!!

just googled the name of the program and itv commissioned a survey of 10,000 people....how can that be representative of the country.....no wonder the results are so odd...

Very odd programme and l don’t think representative but maybe as it seemed to be a cross section of people not enough of a random selection of viewers know much about dogs hence all the crossbreeds/ designer dogs, especially interested in the poodle crosses as there is some recent research suggesting that this isn’t the best cross with many beginning to show aggressive tendencies.

thought Labradors were top it would have been my guess as every second dog you see is a Lab wih Springers being a close second.Where did Frenchies come as they are another common one round here

I turned off when they referred to a sproodle as a breed ! I've seen the results and they seem very bizarre as bc says, rare breeds with registrations below 100 featuring above more common ones. Glad the GSD wasn't higher to be honest, don't want idiots dashing out to buy them on a whim just because they were number 1.

the skate boarding Frenchi was brilliant-and that bloke really proud that he was there 'the day he forst got on a board' lol. It was quite annoying which is a shame as I like both presenters.

That actually changed my view of Frenchies. All the ones I know are substitute babies with behaviour issues so it was refreshing to see one that seemed to enjoy life.

I remember reading at the end of the year that in actual figures the French bulldog is now number one, followed by labradors
Very worrying that such an unhealthy breed are number one. Such a fashion trend (I’m sure some are lovely dogs, but many medical bills involved)

The dramatic decline of Cavalier King Charles spaniels loooks worrying but if it means an improvement in Health they should be turning a corner soon

Why are cross breeds being seen as a breed.
It just looks like a fashion thing to me.
We could start putting Highlands with a Fell and create a Fell Lands breed.
