My mare was supposed to go to stud this year but due to various issues she is instead, on vets advice and my personal choice, going away on full grass livery for a year to just chill out and be a horse and see if time heals her. The vet did say she could go to stud anyway but I don't want to send her while she is still slightly lame/uncomfortable. If this is the case and she comes back sound and stays sound after re-introduction to work then I will hopefully send her to stud then-however she will be 16 so definitely getting on a bit. Just wondered who has bred from an older maiden mare and how it went?

Oh and it goes without saying..if after a year she doesn't come back sound/stay sound after work she will obviously not go to stud full stop and instead enjoy retirement.
