I've been asked to judge - do I need my own score sheet?

I recently moved house and in order to try and get in a horsey circle have volunteered my services to judge at a local low key childrens riding club show.

I've done some homework on the classes I'm judging but wondered if I take my own score sheet or will they have them?

I could ask them but don't want to appear completely novice or anal about it! I suppose there will be about 10 in a class, I should have a steward, I will happily make my own, maybe I should in case they don't have one?
 
I have judged hunters & riding horses and ponies for well over 20 years now. The organisers will supply you with a list of the entries
and your steward should tick of each horse as it enters the ring. When you have pulled the horses into the final line up the stewards should write down the placing by the name of each horse and you can then hand out the rosettes and prizes.

You wont need to take anything with you unless they ask you to, I have never been asked to take paperwork with me other than when I judge condition & Turnout and I have my own typed up sheets for that. Good luck it can be fun, take your time and dont be influenced by anyone else.
 
Thanks guys. I used to enter low key classes at my old yard 5 years ago before I had children but am finding it so hard to remember what they were like!

I know what I'm looking for in each class and know that a kind word goes a long way, even if it's an interest in the pony, ie. how old is he, how long have you had him etc.

It can't be too difficult as they didn't ask me if I'd done it before or what my experience is! I shall be feeling very jealous though, as I will must want to jump on and have a go myself! :)
 
You'll be fine! If possible try to make sure that there are 'Special' rosettes for unplaced children, especially if there are eg 7 in a class with 6 rosettes. Depending on the classes you are judging you might also want to take into account who has already been placed in a previous class, as this is a low key children's event. Your steward should be equipped with all you will need and most are very helpful, unless of course you get the one who hasn't stewarded before!
