I was riding a pony yesterday and in the process of trying to stay on during bucking and plunging I snapped my little finger on his neck! I've obviously reached the age where I break not bounce! Waiting for doctors to ring me to say whether they will operate today, but I really want to bend my fingers! Arg!

Having broken my finger very recently, i would strongly suggest asking them if there is any way that they wont operate but just try to set the finger without surgery. I have 3 pins in my little finger now and i cant really move it made holding the reins a challenge when i first started riding again.

Strap it up and take a LOT of painkillers untill you can go back to the hospital:)

Agree with BM. I broke and dislocated my little finger earlier this summer the doctors were not keen on operating as the after results are poor.
I had mine strapped up with a metal splint in a straight position at 90degrees from knuckle for only 10days mine was a rotational injury too so had to be twisted back in shape. After that I was able to start full moving it is now full moving although does bend inwards rather more than it should.

I'm not sure strapping it up will work, it was pointing at a right angle and even after they numbed it and tried to straighten it out it's twisted and pointing the wrong way, need to go to bristol to see specialists

I did that jumping - mine was bent in a u shape to the outside and i smashed the little bone in the middle into 15 pieces ( thought had just dislocated it so pulled it straight and finished my round !). surgeon opted not to pin it and I am really pleased he didnt as I have full function in it BUT it took 14 weeks to mend as the blood supply to the area is poor !

Yup, I've broken four of my fingers over the years (I am quite old), including both little fingers in exactly the same way as you. The ONLY one I went to hospital for (strapped the others up myself; I'm tough/silly) is the one that isn't quite right. I was furious when they took the splint off: "could've done better myself" I muttered......
