As title. Always have my mobile in my side jacket pocket and in a protective case but must have leant on it somehow and have cracked the internal LCD screen £70 to repair :(

In the age of these new big screen touch pad mobiles how do you keep yours safe whilst riding and doing horsey jobs like leading in etc?

I got the iphone 4s and bought the griffin armoured survivor case for it, its brill, before that i bought a small padded compact camera pouch which you could fit a phone the size of an iphone in, not sure about anything bigger. I think a padded pouch would be the best thing for when your riding.

Oh no! I keep mine in a protective case in a chest pocket when I'm pottering about

I've found certain makes of phone are more robust than others, current phone has survived being dropped on concrete, in mud and in troughs

I don't ride out with my iPhone. I have a small Sony Ericsson W995 that is less likely to break when knocked.

Think that must be the way to go - 2 phones....... :D

last smaller Ericsson ever survived being eaten by my filly.....! She didn't swallow it luckily just played with it in her mouth to my horror - But did let me remove it covered in slobber.

Needless to say if I take my coat off now I put it out of her reach as she has demonstrated how dextrous she can be opening zips and removing pocket contents!!!

Ive got the new iphone and its got a protective screen and then in a leather flip case my old iphone 3 ended up with a cracked screen (although from daughter not with horses) so i got a good leather one when i got my new one. It works cos ive dropped it about 3 times and theres been no damage to the phone (touching wood very quickly!!!!

I have blackberry for work and hate it anyway but its not practical for riding so it gets left at home(in case I crack screen). I bought a cheap NOkia old fashioned type and I always put phone in zip pocket ie inside front coat or I like jods with zip to put it in. I find they dont break so easily if I fall off and I think it cost me £20 pay as u go vodaphone

I bought my OH an Otterbox for his birthday, cos he dropped his in a stable and the screen cracked really badly - if you look on Amazon (if you wanted to investigate!) there are some that are about £10 - this is a rubbery one - the one i got him was about £25 and has a hard case and a much harder film for the screen - its amazing, hes dropped his phone a few times since (and had a mother and a father of a fall) and no extra damage at all. my rubbery one is pretty good for when i drop it (not that i do much) but i dont know that Id want too much to happen to it !!

I've got a really cheap phone, only cost £20 so i don't mind so much if it gets killed whilst riding :)
I'd buy a really cheap spare to take with you whilst at the yard and invest in a jacket like mine: internal pocket specially for mobile and it's got a handy zip pocket alongside the zip at the front which i use just now as it's so cold i don't want to be opening my jacket 500 times a day :)

i just ride with mine in my left hand side pocket, its an iphone 4s with a leather protective cover on it, not sure if it makes much difference to be honest where it is, and the case its in, as my phone has taken a drop off taz and survived :)

really interested in this as when i had a 'normal' phone if i wasn't wearing a jacket i had one of those hi viz arm bands for when riding.
Now i have a samsung galaxy s and spent the summer with it shoved down my boot. I tried the one angelish shared a link to but it is slightly small for mine so hoping someone will come up with an armband suitable.

My old Ericsson phone survived being run over by a truck in a field, blackberry I've had for 18 months is pretty robust too, been dropped a few times, I have an iphone for work but would leave that at home, of all the people I know that have iphones, most are cracked and some held together with sellotape

I've got myself a new smartphone so it's going absolutely nowhere near the horses.

I've bought a cheapie "clam/flip" type phone on PAYG for putting in my pocket while we're at the stables. You can pick these up for a pittance on fleabay and even new they aren't much. plus, because it's so small, it even fits into my jodhpur pocket.

I've just got a new iphone and i'm terrified about having it with me when i'm with the horses! I've been meaning to buy a cheapy to bring out riding. At the moment it's wrapped in layers of gloves and put into my right pocket and i fully intend to land on my left hand side if I get chucked off!

I got a Defy specifically because it's the only 'tough' smartphone out there and so far, so good. I lost the first one, in part because it's all black so I've got a psychedelic skin for the new one.

I am going to buy the new woof wear phone pod because its designed to take smart phones. It has two pockets, one for phone, the other for keys, hoof picks, loose change and stuff. They look really nice.

My BlackBerry seems to be holding up fairly well - dropped on concrete at least five times since Feb, chucked onto school floor a few more times, and in the last two weeks it's had one water bath and one coffee bath this morning  Yet so far so good.

I am switching to an iPhone next year and at that point will be investing in the most top of the range Otterbox I can get - I think the top ones are about £30-40 but advertised as building site-proof... My mum rides out with her iPhone in a rubber case in a pocket (when she blimmin remembers to take it) and I do think she's slightly mental risking it!

OH's mum has a Samsung Galaxy S and that has survived a water bucket bath but only after radiator treatment and only a bit intermittently.

Thanks guys - no more posh phones for me I think. Phone was far to technical for me anyway ;)

Off to trawl ebay for a cheap flip open one as less likely to get damaged.

I've had my iphone nearly two years and in summer ride out with a bumbag and winter zipped up in a coat pocket. Have got a hard plastic case on it and although drop kicked it across the yard a few times its fine. Outer case has come off but it seems to reduce the impact. It's hard to see the screen though if sunny and impossible to use with gloves on. And really need two hands to use it for the touch screen to work.
