...with a 17.1 gelding :D

but, he's out of my budget :(

By £600

Owner has already said they'd knock £500 off the price for me, but, I can't expect them too knock off anymore

He's perfect for me, in every single way...

so, any ideas on how to earn £600 (well, more like £800 including the vetting)

?

I'm 15, I'm thinking; paper-round, babysitting, etc...

anymore ideas? horsey or non-horsey :)

thanks :) x

Winter is coming - how about offering turning out/bringing in/mucking out for people?? If you are on a DIY yard you might find some takers with darker evenings from people who work. Good luck.

Thanks, thats a good idea, but im not at a yard at the moment, i have a stable saved for me until i get a horse, :) but i could still and try and go up every day anyway - thankyou :) x

If they will let you, put an ad up in the tea room/tack room area saying what you can do. My friends daughter made quite a lot doing this on a pretty small (6 horse) yard.

my horse was (and still is!) 16.1 when i was 15 but then i did come off a 14hh pony to the 16.1 horse when i was 15 :D

it is coming up to winter why don't you honestly say to the owner your problem she may just be happy to sell him before winter sets in

Ohh I ment no harm.... I was only saying :)

I do wish her good luck, its a great thing when you 'click' :) x

None taken - no worries :)

I'm nearly 5'10", and still growing, I currently ride a 16.2hh, and am starting to swap her, he is taller than i was looking for, but i have fallen for him.

About the unexpected vets fee's etc, my vets have a monthly think where you pay so much monthly so if anything does happen you have the funds, spread out monthly i can easily afford it, it is just the initial cost :)

my mum and dad are paying for my livery etc until i am 16, when i can work in the mornings and weekends, but for the initial cost of a horse they have given me so much money an i have to find the rest, its a test to see hw dedicated i am, and i am really enjoying it so far :)

thanks for all the commets :) xx

I'd tell the owner how much you have got, she might be prepared to come down a bit further to clinch the sale as winter is fast approaching and she'll have feed and bedding to pay for.

If not she might be prepared to agree for you to pay in a couple of installments to give you time to earn some more money.

I already asked for monthly installments,i would be able to pay of the rest of the cost within two months if she would let me, unfortunatley no luck. the horse has been up for a while though, so I'm hoping no-one will want him so she may reduce the price even more :)

thankyou :) xx

Hi are you old enough to work? As you could get a job as a waitress in a pub or restuarant i work full time and also par time in a pub for a bit of extra money, i find i can live off my pub money so my other wages can go towards horse and living costs plus the tips come in handy to. With this you could save in no time

I can only work a few hours a week, so no-one will really employ me, many have said come back when your 16 though, currently got a paper round and a job collecting leaflets which pays £25 a week. wish i could find a job though :) xx

We pay a teenager £10/ week to feed, hay, water and muck out our 3 on a sunday morning so that we can have a sleep in! We're going to raise it to £12 this year - she does about an hour and a half.. You may easily tempt people on your yard into that... She also covers for us if we go away (but her mum is my instructor if there are any problems...) I give her £10 per morning, and £10 for each three evenings we are away.. She also gets to use our pony at shows frequently too.

Tack cleaning is a good plan too.

I'd put an offer in at what you have, and see what happens. Even the nicest horses are not selling quickly, and winter, with its extra costs is looming. She may decide to cut her losses.. Is the horse realistically priced anyway?

when i was 15 i waitressed in a local pub only served food obv but that brought in about 50per week just doing 2 nights plus tips ontop im sure u cud earm some money that way, but just jobs around the yard or local area, poo-picking/mucking out/tack cleaning jobs some people dont want or have time to do will help.
Good luck :D

Thanks, got some some really good ideas ther! :) will definatley try and put them into action this weekend :) xx

In my opinion, no. he is lovely, and gorgeous, but has a big price tag, i have been browsing websites and have found equally nice horses for less than half his price, but he is a dream! if only his price wasnt such a nightmare

i must admit though, looking at some horses, who are similar, its making me realise just how over-priced he is, there is a 16.3hh mare, 10 years old, done a bit of dressage/jumping and hacking for£1850 including tack, thats almost £3,000 cheaper

thanks :) xx
