Today myself and 3 friends boxed up and decided to go for a hack round the Osberton Estate I was on my new horse that Ive bought to hunt and sell on. He is 16.3hh 7years ISH by Power Blade he is a big gentle giant really, done alot of hunting in Ireland, I describe him as "Worldly" it as though in his relativley shortish life he has seen it all, never shys, can hack with babies barging into him absolutly nothing fazes him.
He was a star today took the lead through the shallow river, lead over a few small logs (far to hard to do alot else really).
We were 100yds from the lorry I was ambling along on the buckle end telling him he was such a good boy, and feeling very proud of myself, and he did the biggest spook ever and I came out the side door landed on the concrete banged my head and my back, but got up, he took me totally by suprise cant even imagine what he shyed at.
My sister caught him as he just went to the other horses. And my friend said "That will teach you to be complaceant (sp!)
Ive just now got hurt pride and a howler of a head ache. But it really made me think, I did have a proper Charles Owen hat on and still felt my head hit the floor, i just imagined if I was out hunting with my Patey on, what could of happened, Iam sure it would of cracked the hat in 2.

well that was silly, try not to do it again;):D
think i'd be inclined to get myself a new hat and wear it hunting too, much better than watching half your head roll away with your hat:eek:

hope youre ok, but thats horses for you lol. I had a similar expereince with a horse few years ago and she was a big 'take no *****' shire. As they say though youre not a real rider till youve had a fall. :p

Good Lord! If you took into account the number of times I've come off in my life, I'd be Lucinda Green by now! :D (I wish )

Glad you're ok, Steeleydan...

Welcome to my world! :D:D Hope you didn't suffer too much.

I was thinking this the other day. I was mooching down the road holding the buckle and picking blackberries. I suddenly remembered I was riding my 4yo, who is luckily a saint, but still has only been hacked about 20 times! It is so easy to forget
