gizmo is on the injured list sadly, out for a walk today playing with his ball. He jumped up for it landed and collapsed got to him and had dislocated every toe in his hind foot. Bless him he made no noise at all just sat looking at us. His toes were in ever position you could think of it looked awful. Took him to the vets thinking they may need to knock him out to put them back in and x ray. By the time we got there they had popped back in but started to swell a lot. So a shot of pain killers and some anti inflammatory full rest ( he has slept all day bless him ) back on Friday when swelling has gone down to see if any breaks or if they keep popping out a cast.
So any healing vibes and hugs send this way please.
Aren't they amazing? No noise?! Mine screamed cos I pulled mud off the hair on his paw earlier, massive wuss! Poor Gizmo, I hope he's ok and comfortable enough for walks soon.
Thank you, no nothing at all not even a thing from him at the vet. Fingers crossed it all stays where it should at the moment it really big and not in line fully need his ligaments to settled down. Just goes to show how accidents can happen so quick. I've never seen a dislocation so bad all his toes went in every direction will keep you up dated x
It could be worse, I've seen a dog shatter a tibia just jumping up excitedly - wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened in front of me, I thought he was having a fit.....mine is ball mental and I try to throw a 'running rabbit' ball along the ground as opposed to anything that might make him want to go aerodynamic!
Swelling has gone down a lot already, still holding leg up high but that's to be expected. He is definitely feeling better today as I took him out for a wee,he had one I went to pick him up and the little ****** shot off on three legs.
Photos show the bad foot loads better its the top foot with no white on it.
Oh bless him. Stig, one of my collies got a foreign object up between his outside toe and the one next to it when he was 18 months old. He had loads of surgeries trying to find it and ended up with infected arthritis in the joint. Vet was on about life long steroids, but Stig was fine on three legs throughout the whole time, so I just asked why couldn't they take the toe off. Inner city small practice vet and he said most of his clients would never let him do that and would prefer steroids
Stig had his toe amputated and hasn't looked back. They can cope amazingly well even when quite badly injured, so it doesn't surprise me you didn't hear anything...poor little fella though.
Yep he thinks he is linford christie lol, the adapt so quick on three legs, vet has said worse case would be wire his ligaments or toe cannot remember which will find out Tom. Xx
Oh bless him . . . hope he feels better soon. When Fred was hit by a car, shattering his tibia AND fibia he had to have a cast . . . looked he was doing a Hitler salute .
