... to prevent her riding a grey pony 2 miles along really nasty roads in freezing fog without any hi-viz on

Last week the pony went down in their trailer and cut itself, so this week she led the pony to the show (it was foggy then but not as bad as it got later) while her dad drove her other pony to the show in the trailer.

I overheard him telling someone she would be riding it home, and I asked him if she had hi-viz to wear. No, he said, it's all in the shed at home

So I offered to lend them hi-viz clothing and leg bands, but by the time they were ready to leave the fog was even worse. They loaded the pony in the trailer but it went bananas, so they took it off again, at which point I said, bung him on the lorry and I'll take him home for you. Pony fairly cantered up the ramp of the lorry and travelled perfectly (clearly doesn't like trailers).

But why oh why would any dad even countenance letting his daughter ride home in these conditions (on roads where the drivers are all speed merchants at the best of times)

and what the h*ll use is hi-viz if it's in the shed?

Wow, good for you. I drove home 90 minutes today (I think the fog is everywhere today) and it was awful, loads of tits with no lights on, speeding, I wouldn't have ridden even in hi-viz, you couldn't see more than a few metres in some places.

Silly Dad - my dad doesn't like me getting on a bloody horse in the first place

Some peole have no idea!

I rode my grey out this morning in the fog, it has cleared quite a bit by the time we went out, but I still had my tabard and hat cover in and she had her exerise sheet on and I only went round our village.

No fog here but I was lunging in the school and by 4.15 all I could see what the horse's hi-viz nose band, so I can't imagine how anyone would allow a child to ride on the roads so late.

The dad's a lorry driver, so you'd think he would be more, well, aware really

I'm just glad I could help, just imagine if I hadn't and something had happened to her.

The really really bad thing is that just a year ago 2 school kids from the village were killed on the same road on their way home one evening - wearing dark blazers and no hi-viz

You have got to wonder, what on earth will it take before people wake up FFS

I'm more amazed by how few people seem to wear hi-viz now full stop, let alone horse riders .

I was driving home the other night and came across a man in all black, with a black labrador that was just running around in the road. Then half a mile up the same country track a small boy was just wandering along in equally dark clothes.

It's just as well my emergency stop is pretty good and that I had my full beam on ..

stupid stupid people. You know some people just don't deserve kids when they can't protect them from what could have been such a horrid accident

Good for you!!! well done

thank goodness you were there, I just had 2 girls ride past my field which is on an extremely busy road during the day but they were riding at 5pm in the dark....I think they had a death wish what on earth posseses people?

Well done you for stopping an accident from happening, far to many people just "look the other way" these days and dont want to put themselves out. So it is good to know that there are decent, friendly, helpful people out there!
