Adjusting my sails
... to prevent her riding a grey pony 2 miles along really nasty roads in freezing fog without any hi-viz on
Last week the pony went down in their trailer and cut itself, so this week she led the pony to the show (it was foggy then but not as bad as it got later) while her dad drove her other pony to the show in the trailer.
I overheard him telling someone she would be riding it home, and I asked him if she had hi-viz to wear. No, he said, it's all in the shed at home
So I offered to lend them hi-viz clothing and leg bands, but by the time they were ready to leave the fog was even worse. They loaded the pony in the trailer but it went bananas, so they took it off again, at which point I said, bung him on the lorry and I'll take him home for you. Pony fairly cantered up the ramp of the lorry and travelled perfectly (clearly doesn't like trailers).
But why oh why would any dad even countenance letting his daughter ride home in these conditions (on roads where the drivers are all speed merchants at the best of times)
and what the h*ll use is hi-viz if it's in the shed?
