Im really shocked .One of the liveries has told me that yo is having fireworks on our yard.It will only be few yards from where the horses are stabled.
It will be for her grand child surely theres somewhere else to have it.It will be behind her bungalow but the horses will still see and hear the bangs.

Horses quite often don't mind fireworks - if they can see them. Anyway speak to her tomorrow. Find out what she's proposing, and then you can tell her how unhappy you are.
But at least you'll also be able to find out what time the fireworks are going to be set off so that you can be there. Put all the lights on in the yard, which will also help.
I have been discussing tactics with another livery last time it happened(shes been there years) she put sheet up at stable door.I think it s better if they can see whats going on but will definitely be there to make sure she is ok.Its the close proximity that worries me.
I would talk to the YO first, don't just take the livery's word for it.
There are fireworks going off everywhere at the moment, its quite possible your horse's have heard the bangs before and won't panic. Will all the horses be in overnight? Turning all the lights on and having someone wandering around the yard would be a good idea, if possible.
My mares awful and weve had 3 down our road and one on the yard, Global herbs fireworx is amazing! She didnt even bat a eyelid after being on it for a few days!
Would give slightly more than reccomended though x
Ours have never minded and I have a stress head of a mare. I remember the 1st time we had a display very close to ours I kept checking on them and just saw a row of heads staring quite contentedly at the display. Could almost imagine them ooohing and aahing! Think horses are exposed to so much these days they often cope with things we don't think they would...and firework displays are often a year round occurence!
Talk to YO as others say and see what is proposed and where.
no way would i allow fireworks close to my horses, there must be somewhere else YO can have them. the noise (let alone bright lights) could utterly freak horses out.
Yes horses are all in now .Ill be there and other livery too willo make sure they are ok.Other livery has been invited to party !!!! I havent seen yo yet but livery is good friend and is definitely not trying to cause trouble.
My horse use to love watching the fireworks. He'd lift his head, prick his ears and grin with delight. He was some distance away but defiantly loved it.
I know he's a bit special! But you maybe surprised. I hope all of yours are ok and agree talk tactics with the YO.
I do wonder what the repurcussions would be if one of the horses on the yard injured itself during the display.
I think it is very different deciding to have your own fireworks near your own horses than having them on what is essentially your business premises with other peoples horses.
our yard had fireworks display last year, we were all very annoyed!! + 2 top it all the muck heap caught fire. so i think its important to remember that although the bangs and flashes will spook your horses, you must remember they are also explosives, they could do some serious damage should one land in the wrong place!!!
There has been a fireworks/bonfire party at the yard I used to keep my horses at. We checked on the horses part way through the night and they didn't seem phased in the slightest. Most were just dozzing away in fact.
We didn't leave any extra lights on, through I think maybe the radio was on. Horses for courses.
Lights on always work well - because they can protect against some of the bigger flashes if it's a large display. Making it less startling for the horses.
My field owner is having them on the edge of my horses field!
Luckily Ive got 5 other fields, Im hoping to keep them at the other end, Im dreading what I find the next day
He's invited us to go, I might just go to watch my boys and keep them calm
A sheet over the door seems a great way to upset a horse for the night.
I'd just be there, ask for an invite to the party, but leave the yard just as it normally is unless you see a horse getting upset. I think the more disturbance of people hovering being worried, lights going on etc the more the horses will think they've got something to worry about.
The only time that my boy has bothered, is when boyfirned brother had one, and the sound rattled around the wood so made it sound much worse than it was.
Dex was soo scared that I told them to stop, I was really popular that year
I am sure they will be fine, but as has been said, you need to speak to HO and find out what will happen if there are any injuries
our horses dont bat an eyelid...ever...... I did used to and sit with them but last year they were watching them quite happily......maybe speak to YO first and clarify, if they are garden ones they are not going to be too horrific or last very long??!

I agree with this. We are near a race track and clay pigeon shoot place, so load noises are the norm. on fireworks night, usually, the horses in the outside blocks are absolutely fine, but the ones in the enclosed barn get a bit jumpy and startled because they cant see whats happening outside.
