Ive been reading the entries for Burgham and did a mini backflip.
nicola wilson, Mark and Tanya kyle and Matthew Wright are all entered in a few classes so ill be there, with my pen and paper hunting them out

Anyway, i was wondering, how many of you on here have ever competed against the big names? One of my friends on the yard is against they Kyles for Burgham Novice.

Yep, you expect it eventing, even at the low levels, but I have competed against reasonably well known GP dressage riders at an unaffiliated qualifier which was a bit

Not competed against the yet but when hiring a school the other day to jump around their show jumps I was sharing the school with Piggy French who was running over on her time as had loads of horses. She was very nice and extremely applogetic sp?

its very common out eventing to be in the same sections as lots of big names :)

I did get butterflies at one event when we were directed to park our trailer next to Pippa Funnell though!

My first BE I was against Mary King (among others). Chuffed to report I beat her.... highlight of my career that!! I came 17th, she came 19th. :D

This is also very common in show jumping, you regularly get the big names in the same class that we are entering. When you think about it equestrian sport is one of the only sports where you can compete with the top names.....................Let's face it you'd be unlikely to play against Wayne Rooney on a Sunday morning on a parks pitch. ;)

In Eventing I find it's very common to be against big names, they all have to bring their young horses on somewhere! I've competed against loads and it is pretty daunting but often I find it's brilliant to watch them and talk to them if they have a spare moment. (And even better if you end up beating them!).

There's a top dressage venue by me that often holds unaff, BD and eventers dressage and I've been against some good names even in the unaff classes before. And I was against a top event rider in a 90cm hunter trial last year at quite a small venue, that was a bit of a surprise!

never competed against them but when ive been fence judging at the local riding club we had a few big names for the affiliated events, some of the riders did look pretty shocked as they rode past in the warm up arena, though yes it is common

There's a local hunter trial to us that runs an early season eventer trial- Piggy French takes her youngsters out to it so you can be following her round. It's so interesting to watch though- you can see what you've been taught be put in action effortlessly!

Yes in showjumping when I was younger. Also rode in a good few races against the top boys. I cut one particular jockey up when he tried to come up my inner :o I actually got alot of respect for that but I wasn't gonna let anyone go up there no matter WHO they were!

Yes lots as I evented. Thought it was always brilliant as a, you raise your own game and b, have learnt a lot by watching. Saw Mary King with a youngster years ago at Twesledown with a baby who was being a total ****. That's whe I saw her skill come out!
