I've traded up and bought an Ifor! Breech bar question..

My Ifor 505 is from 1991 and has this fitting on it...

but I want to use my trailer with the partition out sometimes. Do I need to buy a set of these to use a full length Ifor breech bar?:

or can I travel my mare without a breech bar?

I travel without a breech bar all the time. Works for us.

That's good to know I travel her with her tail bandage and her travelling tail wrap anyways so that's sorted and it has the front unload ramp so not as if she's going to try and back out as I'm pulling the back ramp down.

Travelling with a breech bar can be dangerous, imagine an emergency stop scinario, you should always travel with both front and back! Not worth the risk without.

The old 505s had breeching straps so you would need to change the brackets to fit a full length breech bar.

Can anyone change the brackets or do they need special bolts (i.e. a garage to do it)? The existing ones are just screwed in.

you can buy the fittings for the newer trailer easy enough, just need to check the width. we itted them in my trailer for a tiny pony, just bolt through side wall

I've fitted a full width breech bar to my older 505 - it had the same fittings as yours. Those fittings don't fit the breech bar so when you buy it you will also need to buy the brackets and these just bolt through the walls. If I remember correctly they were about £12. I went to my local(ish!) IW dealer for all the bits and they were really helpful. It only took 10 mins and a couple of drill holes to fit the brackets.
